FAQs
What about e-mails I receive from myself?
Your own e-mail address is treated with suspicion
because many viruses and spammers fake the 'From:' address, which could be
yours. If you embed your Email Key into your mail message, then your e-mail will
be delivered automatically.
What is an Email Key?
An Email Key is a phrase that you make up that
would not normally occur in the body of an email. It could be something like -
'sun and moon and stars' or 'Fluffy and Rover and Fido'. Anything that you can
easily remember but is specific to you. This Email Key works almost as a
password. It allows you to send yourself email without the emails being stopped
by our servers. An easy way to make sure that your Email Key is included in all
your emails is to add it to your signature line. Your signature would then look
something like the following:
John Smith
Fluffy and Rover and Fido
Why should I use a phrase as my Email Key
instead of just one word?
Spammers have become very cunning and they make
sure their emails contain a great deal of text in the hope that they can bypass
programs such as ours. Using a phrase greatly decreases the likelihood that it
will appear in the message of emails sent by spammers.
But, do I have to have a Email Key?
Yes. The Email Key prevents spammers from sending
you emails using your email address in the "From" line. So, if
spammers send you emails using your email address in the "From" line,
our servers will stop it because your Email Key will not be in the message
section of the email.
What about e-mails I initiate?
If you send an e-mail to someone first, it would
be pretty unfair to make them confirm their response to you. The vast majority
of people reply to e-mail and leave the original message intact. If your Email
Key is part of the original message then their e-mail would be automatically
delivered to you and their address, in turn, is added to your Whitelist.
Can I change my Email Key?
Certainly! Simply choose the "Login"
button (upper left) and you can change this in your profile.
What about newsletters I subscribe to?
Most newsletters are fully automated, and
therefore your confirmation request would not be acted upon. In order to
continue receiving your newsletters, you should manually add the 'From:' address
to your Whitelist.
But I already have an e-mail address
elsewhere?
No Problem! Just as spammers fake their 'From:'
address, you essentially can, too. Simply forward your existing mail account to
your @bayemail.com account. Then when you send e-mail, send it from your
existing mail account, but when checking for new mail, check your @bayemail.com
account. For assistance in forwarding your mail, please contact your Internet
Service Provider (ISP).
